Caminar of Butte County is a nonprofit agency that provides support for people with disabilities to become self-reliant in the community.
Independent living, socialization and vocational services are provided to consumers to help develop their life skills. A self-sufficient lifestyle is the goal of the organization.
Staff members spend a significant amount of time educating consumers on these life skills, as well as offering assistance in daily activities and tasks.
Linda Able has been a Caminar consumer for over 6 months. She first entered the program by living in the Caminar housing services while they helped her get out of debt and back onto her feet. Glenda Sturgell, Linda’s wellness caregiver, has been helping Linda with different aspects of her life since entering the program. Glenda recently assisted Linda in finding and moving into a new apartment by herself. Linda has also been able to save up her finances to purchase herself a car, which helps make her more self-sufficient. Glenda is currently assisting Linda in getting a dog and staying current on all of her finances. Glenda is not only Linda’s caregiver, but has become a constant companion and friend. Since Caminar, Linda is living a stable life working at The Work Training Center in Oroville, and likes participating in the Special Olympics or seeing a movie on her spare time.
The Caminar Success Stories project is finished, as well as the semester. This video of Ashley and I highlights our feelings about Caminar, its employees and consumer, Linda Able. With the conclusion of the assignment, we share positive thoughts about the organization as a whole. We enjoyed our time working on this project, and we were happy to have gotten the opportunity to have this experience.
This video is based on Linda Able who is a Caminar consumer. Linda was able to get out of debt and take control of her life with the help of Caminar, and her wellness caregiver Glenda. This video incorporates two new interviews of Caminar employees to give a well rounded overview of Caminar, and how it supports community members.

The best way to describe Glenda is as a compassionate Caminar caregiver and long time staff member. Glenda has multiple clients based in Oroville, CA where she does various tasks to help her clients succeed in their daily lives. Glenda can assist from hospital visits, to making sure clients get to meetings, finding housing, getting a job and even being there for the birth of a clients child. Glenda is someone for Caminar Consumers to lean on while they get the help and assistance they need. Glenda is more then a caregiver to her clients, she is a companion and a friend.
We had our first class assignment today in Advanced Photojournalism. We were told to go around campus and take candid pictures of students interacting with each other. Below you will find the original of these photos as well as an edited version. Enjoy!
